Print Your Own Cups In-House — Reduce Costs by Up to 70%

At 5,000 cups/month you're spending $3,500 on outsourced printing. In-house, the same volume costs $900. The equipment pays for itself in 6 months. After that, every cup is profit.

The Numbers

Outsourcing vs. In-House: The Real Cost Comparison

This is the table that changes how businesses think about cup printing. At lower volumes, outsourcing makes sense. At moderate volume, the math flips — hard.

Monthly Volume Outsource Cost In-House Cost Monthly Savings Equipment Payback
1,000 cups/month $800 $240 $560/mo ~14 months
5,000 cups/month $3,500 $900 $2,600/mo ~6 months
10,000 cups/month $6,500 $1,500 $5,000/mo ~4 months
25,000 cups/month $15,000 $3,200 $11,800/mo ~2 months

Is In-House Printing Right for Your Business?

In-house printing is a strong move for the right profile — and the wrong move for others. Here's how to know which side you're on.

Strong Fit — You should print in-house if:

You print 3,000+ cups per month consistently — the math flips hard at this volume
You use a consistent logo or brand — not one-off designs for every run
You want turnaround in days, not weeks — no more waiting on print suppliers
You have 150–300 sq ft of workspace available
You're open to operating or supervising a simple printing process
You're a coffee chain, QSR, franchise, or events business with predictable cup demand
⚠️

Better to Outsource — stick with us if:

Your volume is under 1,000 cups/month — outsourcing stays cheaper at low volume
You need photographic or full-color prints — screen printing is 1–4 spot colors
Your designs change frequently (every batch different) — setup time makes it inefficient
You have no space or operator to dedicate to the equipment
You need a single order of 250–500 cups for an event — not recurring
Even if in-house isn't right today, we still supply you. See our outsource printing service →

Once You Print In-House, You're One Step From a Print Business

Many businesses that start printing in-house realize their machine runs at 40% capacity for their own needs. The other 60% can serve other businesses in their area — at a margin of $0.25–0.40 per cup. That's the Journey B model. Your in-house program becomes the foundation of a side business.

In-House Printing Questions

Most operators are printing independently within 2–3 days of completing our training program. Full proficiency — including color matching, troubleshooting, and maintenance — typically takes 2–4 weeks of regular operation.
Our standard cup printing machine requires approximately 4 feet × 6 feet of floor space plus working clearance. A 10×10 foot space is comfortable for full production setup including consumables storage.
The crossover point where in-house printing becomes more economical than outsourcing is typically around 3,000–5,000 cups per month. At 5,000 cups/month, the equipment pays for itself in approximately 6 months.
Ongoing costs include blank cups (purchased from HT Printers at wholesale), inks, and periodic maintenance supplies. There are no software subscription fees or per-print royalties. Total variable cost is typically $0.09–0.18 per cup depending on volume and materials.
No prior printing experience is required. Our training program covers everything from scratch. The machines are designed for operator-level use, not technician-level expertise. Most customers who complete training are surprised at how manageable it is.
